Midnight In Paris

  The first few minutes of the Paris streets and building already caught me into it.  I smiled at Owen Wilson's voice over about Paris. Not only I have a thing for Paris but the city just look great through the camera. The movie remind me of 'Somewhere In Time'. When its playing with era, the costume is stunning, not only it's well made, because 20s of Paris is really breath taking. The debate point is, do people into certain kind of thing because they appreciate the beauty of it or they are escaping form the real world? It's a physiological movie with art and humour. And it takes time to absorb the idea and the beauties.

ONE DAY

  Though it doesn't receive many good reviews but it is a nice made movie to my point of view. It's noway to compare with the book for sure. Never there's a movie base on a book can compare to the original creation. The beautiful words in the book was wasted at the first half of the movie, the skipping of times lost the details of the character. I wish they would have voice over or add a scene about the letters between Dex and Em. But the art direct and the costume did a good job on the late 80s to 00s. The small change of the era yet it's so precise. The great part of the story is it captures the possibility of life, the struggle to the reality which people can relate to. Beautiful story doesn't have to be happy ending.

 雖然很多影評都說不好，我倒是挺滿意。因為電影口味真是人人不同，正如有些人看一些笑片可以沒五秒爆笑一次我反而一點都笑不出來。電影當然是無法跟書相比的，書的文筆非常美，電影剛開始的部份跳過得快，錯過了一些可以讓人物性格明顯一點的小細節。故事由80年代尾開始到00年代，美指和服裝在時間變遷的微細部份都做得好。這故事讓人喜歡的地方在於它的真實可能性，看的人可以代入。也可能是為甚麼坐隔壁的兩個中學生一完結的時候說悶，語氣聽得出來是受保護新一代。

HANNA

  I  would say this is quite a disappointment. Not only the the cadence is bad that you can't feel the tension, the story telling is also quite messy. It's a bit of this and that, I can't really see the focus. The two thing impressed me are the music by Chemical Brothers (of course it's good.) and the camera move. There are some very interesting long & hand carry shot work so smoothly make the movie visually entertaining. So what did it become? Nice music and interesting camera move...you got it! It's a 111mins music video! I can so tell you that all I remember form the film when I walked out the cinema are (1) the music (2) the camera moves (3) the Prada heels Cate Blanchett was wearing.

  我不得不說，這部電影讓我失望了。故事的表達太混亂了，每件事點一下題然後又沒了下文；找不到重點。只有兩樣東西讓我印象深刻就是Chemical Brothers做的音樂(那是當然了)，其次是攝影，有一些長鏡，手提鏡位非常有趣。結果在好音樂和鏡頭作用之下，這就像是個111分鐘的MV。離開戲院的那刻，我只記得 (1)音樂 (2)鏡頭  (3)Cate Blanchett那雙Prada。

Confessions

  I've left this behind for a year, and finally, I watched "Confessions". With all those very good comments on Takako Matsu, the performance actually didn't surprise me at all. I guess it's because the role is so different from many of her previous work and she at least portray the character fair enough. The young actors and actress, especially Yukito Nishii. I somehow thought he's the main cast. Nakashima is getting even better, the deadly cool tone and the music video like CG visual scene were  combined beautifully, and didn't feel like over-doing.

  我拖了一年，終於看了《告白》。松隆子表現完全沒驚喜(拖了那麼久就是怕這個，結果真的中了。唉) 很多人說她演得好，只是因為那跟她演了那麼多年很不一樣的角色然後她只少能表現那感覺罷了。反而小孩們非常搶戲，西井幸人不得了，差點以為你是主角。中島哲也越來越厲害了，畫面流露的冷漠，和那些很MV的CG畫面融合得異常舒服不做作。

BFI LGFF - Gigola

  It's 25th BFI London Lesbian & Gay Film Festival. This year, I chose Gigola, a French lesbian movie set with the night life of Paris in 60s.

  The first thought came into my mind is this is not like those French films I watch normally, it somehow giving me the feel of American independent films. Lou Doillon has a special look which really brings the character of Georgia alive, who buried her sadness of losing the love of her life under the glamorous night life, yet she is brave and liberal. The setting and the costume is nice with the camera move. It also with a sense of humour, I just wish the cadence would slow down a bit as the twist in the late part come in quite a sudden point. 

  今年的英國電影協會的倫敦同志電影節，我選了法國女同片Gigola。故事設在60年代的巴黎，主角Georgia因為失去了最愛的女人，投身到巴黎的夜生活裡，用燈紅酒綠的生活埋葬自己的傷心。但她同時也勇敢而自由。Lou Doillon獨特的外表讓角色更傳神，場景和服裝都很能展示那年代的氣氛。唯一的美中不足是我希望節奏能放慢一點，那後段的轉折就不會感覺太突然了。

The King's Speech

  This is 2 hours of non-stop smooth and sweet acting with elegant music. Great collection of some of the greatest British actors / actresses. Colin Firth performed the struggling of speaking perfectly in details and emotion. Helena Bonham Carter present the gentle wife, many people may remember her from many crazy characters from Burton's films but she actually started off her career with many literary films; she surely reminding people of her ability of carry a serious acting role. Geoffrey Rush is also incredibly well performed. Scenes of light elegant music along with beautiful shot; toning of colour is great. This is one great British production.

Black Swan

  Natalie Portman pretty much hold the movie together all the way through. I'm not a big fan of ballet but this one does make it so beautiful to watch. The atmosphere can build up a little bit more. I like how Darren Aronofsky manage to make this thriller-psycho story with such beautiful visual; the camera moves are smooth and match with the dance moves. Totally in love with the black swan part, the make up is perfect so as Natalie's performance. It's short yet perfect. Not feeling the way it ends though, I kinda wish the evil side will completely take over the character of Nina.

RED

  I think there are a lot of people watch this because Bruce Willis, so am I; well, plus Helen Miller. It is a so-so I should say, there was a part I felt really bored that I almost fall asleep. Seriously I want no talking scene from Willis, just keep on fighting; that will make the film. (LOL) And frankly, I think John Malkovich steal the show! He did a great job of the craziness character; looks over the top but in a good way. Elegant 'Queen' Helen Miller with heavy load weapons, I just love it! After all this is not a great film but an enjoyable one, surely you will have some laugh.

watching film or having class?

  Hands up if you are same like me that don't have a damn clue what they are talking about in the 'Wall Street - Money Never Sleeps', This goes straight onto my top 10 I-don't-understand movie. Sorry, most of the art students are no friends with numbers. Not to mention I am half brain dead today after whole week of school. I sat in cinema and actually thinking what the f**k are you talking about? It is english they are speaking but there is just no way to understand it.

  Ok then, so I will not (or cannot) review the main story bit, how they play with stock market. (I think that is what they are doing, right?) Let's just move on to the real movie base; didn't watch the first one so can't compare really. Shia LaBeouf is getting better in acting though, that's a bit surprise. Maybe he can seriously think about his acting career now. Carey Milligan is the point why I would have watched this in the first place. I love this girl since 'An Education', she is doing a fairly here. Music is so not inspiring, I can't even remember if there's any music to be honest. The stock market line goes down along the New York skyline and Tower Bridge effect is a spot though; ironic?

  I think this would be more entertaining if I understand the lines they are saying (LOL), but I think it is enjoyable enough, as I did not get bored even with the blank understanding...(maybe confusion keeps me awake.)
